Book nook kits have gone mainstream in Australia. In 2026 you can find them at Kmart, BIG W, Spotlight, JB Hi-Fi, QBD Books and Amazon, as well as at specialist stores like ours. So where should you buy? Here is an honest comparison to help you choose, including when a big retailer is the better option.
The quick answer
| If you want… | Best place to look |
|---|---|
| A kit today, in person | Kmart, BIG W, Spotlight or JB Hi-Fi (range varies by store) |
| A popular branded kit at the lowest price | Compare the official brand store, big retailers and Amazon AU |
| Unusual themes you will not see in chain stores | A specialist book nook store |
| Help choosing, clear specs and the right tools | A specialist book nook store |
Kmart
Kmart now stocks a rotating range of Tonecheer book nook kits, such as flower shops, bookstores and museum scenes. Prices are competitive and you can pick one up the same day. The range is small and changes often, so if you see one you love, buy it then.
BIG W
BIG W carries a mix of book nook kits, including some well-known designs, both in store and online. Like Kmart, the range is limited to a handful of popular kits at any one time.
Spotlight
Spotlight sells selected Rolife kits alongside its craft supplies. It is a good choice if you want to grab glue, tweezers and a cutting mat in the same trip, and it often runs sales on its craft kits.
JB Hi-Fi and QBD Books
Both now stock a few book nook kits, usually best-selling designs from brands like Tonecheer and CuteBee. Handy as a gift pick-up, but the choice is narrow.
Amazon AU
Amazon has the biggest range and fast delivery on Prime-eligible listings. The catch is that listings from different sellers vary a lot: check whether LED lights, batteries and a dust cover are included, and read recent reviews before you buy.
Specialist book nook stores
A specialist store will not beat a chain store on same-day pickup, and our orders usually take 7 to 14 days to arrive with tracking. Where a specialist helps is range and advice. At Book Nook Kit Australia we carry hundreds of designs, many of which you will not find at Kmart or BIG W, list the size and what is in the box for our best sellers, and stock the tools that make building easier.
Some favourites you are unlikely to find in chain stores:
- Enchanted Wand Shop, our best seller: a glowing wizard wand shop
- Mysterious Blue Box: a time-travel police box that opens to a blue-lit control room
- Magic Ring Casa: a round-doored fantasy cottage with a garden
- The Alley Waiting for the Cat: a quiet Japanese lane with a cat by the door
- Gothic Architecture: a tall gothic chapel with touch-adjustable light

Tips before you buy anywhere
- Check the size. Most book nooks are 17 to 25 cm tall; measure your shelf.
- Check the batteries. LED lights usually need AAA or button-cell batteries that are not included.
- Get the right tools. A fine cutter, tweezers and a craft knife make a big difference. See our starter tool kit.
- Buying for Christmas? Order early. For us, order by Monday 30 November for delivery before Christmas.
- Buying several? At Book Nook Kit Australia, any 3 kits save 15% automatically in the cart.
