Spellbinder's Row Book Nook Plan – Printable DIY PDF

Build your own crooked lane of wizard shops. Spellbinder's Row has two rows of tall, leaning shop fronts with pointed roofs, arched and star-shaped windows that glow at night, a bay shop window that juts out into the lane, and a mezzanine at the back reached by a curving stair - the kind of magical side street you want to peer into from your bookshelf. A hanging sign with a star cut-out is ready for your own shop name. This is a printable PDF plan: you cut the parts yourself from one kind of sheet material, so there is nothing to wait for in the post. It shares its outside size with our other book nook plans, so they line up on the shelf as a little street.

• You will need: about two 600 x 300 mm sheets of 6 mm ply, PVA glue, a warm-white LED string with battery box, paint (deep blues, purples and gold look magical), coloured tracing paper for the windows, a saw for straight cuts and one for windows and stars, and a drill with 4, 6, 7 and 14 mm bits

Pro Tips for a Smooth Build

1. Measure your sheet first: pick the matching column in the thickness table before you cut.
2. Paint before you glue: the lane is narrow, so finish the inside faces and the bay window first.
3. Colour the glow: amber or violet tissue behind the star windows gives a potion-shop light.
4. Name your shop: letter the hanging sign before it goes up - a gift with the recipient's name works well.
